Ella’s Fine Food and Drink

The fine dining experience relies on the marriage of refined technique and fresh local ingredients. Ella’s Fine Food and Drink serves seasonally influenced American food with a distinctly Asian flair prepared with French techniques. Chef owner Jeanne Kachergis-Roland literally wrote a book called “Butter Love & Cream”.

We settled in to a white table cloth experience which was elegant but unstuffy. We felt welcomed and appreciated our experienced server. It was a highlight of our time in Rhode Island.

The star of the meal was a dish called “Crabby Scallops” which reflects the perspective of a fusion of ingredients and mastery of preparation. Jumbo lump crab topped grilled scallops, served with coconut-cilantro infused black rice, baby bok choy and mirin-yuzu apricot beurre blanc. We had sashimi tacos and a halibut special. Each entree was excellent and celebratory.

Chef Jeannie see the value in greeting guests and walks between the tables to thank diners. This led to a friendly discussion of the inspiration behind some of the creations. The passion for food is evident even in one who has had many years of the restaurant management. She has many James Beard nominations and even beat celebrity chef Bobby Flay on his eponymous cooking show.

We appreciated that she has been around the world and experienced a lot to create Ella’s. We played it cool and didn’t ask about her providing cooking lessons to a certain world renowned pop star who has a beach front mansion in Watch Hill.
