Years ago, a fabulous Siracusa Sicily lunch for five was capped by a clever check: a small box with the bill and a magnifying glass - required because the price was so small.
Fast forward to a recent quaint and quite delicious stateside restaurant. The not insubstantial lunch check included a line item for 3 x .25 for three pieces of bread that arrived with a bowl of soup!
A restaurant owner friend mentioned that insulting the customer is a poor choice. "Just raise the price of the soup .75!"
